sopranos

I finally rented Season 4 of the Sopranos thru Netflix and got through the first two episodes last night. It's sort of dull this season! No crazy murders, deals, etc. I guess they are trying to reestablish some characters...all I have to say is that I can't wait for it to pick up.

While I watched the Sopranos I made some very cool smoky quartz faceted drop earrings. I think they will sell well! And if not, I will keep them!

I am having my first jewelry party on Saturday. I really hope it goes well. I want to be able to support my jewelry habit with this side biz...just like I support my shopping habit with my other design biz. The design biz has been pretty successful this year. I have one steady client who is going places (she has a great, unique product) and I was lucky enough to snag her as a client in the very early stages of her business. I hope I can get more design business going next year! We shall see...

what is up with LJ today?

I tried posting my last entry FOUR TIMES without it showing up in my journal at all, then all four entries decide to show up. Ugh.

Anyway, I want to post some pics of Guam to celebrate reaching the two week mark until our vacation.

This is Two Lovers Point. The legend is that a couple in love threw themselves off of this cliff because their parents wouldn't allow them to get married.

diet

I started the South Beach Diet a month ago in an attempt to get my body back down to my "regular" size. I guess bingeing on carbs and drinking wine every night while not exercising put me over the edge (you think?). :)

So, the first two weeks were extremely hard, but I lost about 8 pounds. Now, I am pretty much at my normal weight and have been able to maintain this weight by reincorporated carbs into my diet. This is also the reason why I haven't really lost any more. Well, that and I still haven't exercised. I need to join a gym!

My goal is to lose 5 - 10 more pounds. I know that's a lot and I have to make major changes to my lifestyle in order to achieve that. The only problem is that I am going home in two weeks and my mother will undoubtedly stuff me with my favorite (read: bad) foods. Sigh. It's a never ending cycle.

Hopefully when I go home I will get out enough to burn off those extra calories. My cousin has five longboards so he promised to teach me how to surf, which should be a blast! We also have plans to go scuba diving and hiking. The only thing I am dreading is the HEAT.

Guam is super hot and humid. The temperature is a constant 86 degrees. When you step off the airplane, you immediately feel your clothes clinging to you from the sudden moisture in the air. It's even worse than Hawaii. At least in Hawaii you have the trade winds to cool you down!

Anyway, I shouldn't complain. We are sooo looking forward to our trip in two weeks!

happy monday!

This weekend was a blast. E's halloween party was so great--a lot of our friends were there and we also managed to meet a few new cool people!

Unfortunately there were no good pictures of Steve and I so I won't post any here. :) Besides, I had quite a bit of sangria that night so I wasn't in the best of shape either.

We didn't leave E's until 3AM so we got home around 4. I haven't been out that late in so long! I am such an old lady these days!

-----

I woke up the next morning with the worst headache. I doubt the wine in the sangria was the best...so, I eventually got up around 2 PM. After a quick breakfast, we hopped on BART and headed back into the city for Party Night #2.

That night was my co-worker's birthday celebration at a Latin club in called Cafe Cocomo. Before going out we met up with Steve's parents and went shopping with them, then had dinner with another friend in town (my friend Ang--an old friend from Guam who recently moved to LA and was up here for the weekend). We took him to Japan Town for dinner. It was sooo nice to see him! I haven't seen him since 2000, the last time I was home. He hadn't changed a bit!

After dinner we dropped Ang at his hotel and headed to Cocomo. The club was great! The band was awesome--they played great Salsa and Meringue (sp?) music all night long. Watching people dance was the highlight of the night--there were so many great salsa dancers! I loved watching them. I'm still trying to convince Steve to take salsa lessons with me, but he has two left feet. :( My poor husband. It was hard enough to learn the fox trot for our wedding dance, but salsa is so much more complicated! We'll see if we can pull it off (not holding my breath).

We left the club around 2AM and got home around 3...

Sunday I woke up feeling much better (had only one drink the night before--go me!) so the minute we got up we headed out to grab breakfast. We've been trying to eat at this cute English Tea Room on Main St. so we finally were able to go on Sunday. They had great breakfast! I wasn't too hungry so I had a small cup of oatmeal with my tea, and Steve had an Irish breakfast. The tea room had a small shop in the back that sold English groceries--too cute! I loved seeing all the different foods. I may have to experiment cooking some English dishes, although I must admit, steak and kidney pie does not sound appealing. :)

After breakfast we headed to Costco to return a few items and pick up others. I am always nervous when we go to Costco. :) It is so easy to blow $300+ on random items.

After Costco we headed to the mall so I can return some pants at Banana Republic. I ended up exchanging them for a cuter pair of pants and a nice work shirt. I love BR! Their clothes fit Steve and I much better than any other brand of clothing. It's gotten to the point where I don't shop much elsewhere.

Once we got back we caught the 49er game. Go niners! They played beautifully yesterday. They are all over the board this season! I can never predict how they will do game to game. Thank god they got rid of that awful kicker. Ugh. Rattay was a great QB yesterday...

happy halloween!

Today is muggy and rainy, which is a welcome change from the hot summer weather we've experienced until today. Today is a curl-up-in-front-of-the-couch-with-a-DVD day. Unfortunately, I won't be doing much relaxing. Right after work I am hitting up a gem faire and then we head to SF to visit Steve's parents and go to E's halloween party.

Hopefully this weather will help contain the fires in So Cal. I talked to my best friend in San Diego yesterday and she was pretty much prepared to evacuate. The fires were five miles from her home, but thankfully, it was contained and they were told they could stay put. My friend in LA said the air quality was horrible and they could not be outside for more than an hour. :( I feel so bad for everyone there.

Book Recommendation

I just finished Sister of My Heart by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni, which was excellent! I loved her writing style. I couldn't put it down.
My next book is The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoyevsky.

OK let's try this again...

I am taking Joy's advice and writing this in note pad so I won't lose it again.

anyway.

Last night Steve and I went to Bed, Bath & Beyond to look for a potential anniversary gift for his parents. As I mentioned in a previous post, they are remodeling their entire home so we decided to get them something for the house. They desparately need new pots so we decided to check out the selection at BBBY--we bought our All Clad pots there and love it! We don't want to spend an obscene amount of $$$ so we decided on the Emeril non-stick All Clad pots. They didn't have a 7 piece set available so they gave us the 10 piece set for the 7 piece price! Gotta love BBBY! That is a $100 savings after using a 20% coupon. Go us. :)

We also managed to find halloween costumes last night. I didn't feel like blowing a ton of cash on a costume this year so we decided to dress for Mardi Gras, with feathered masks, beads, boas, etc. I'm kind of dissapointed in myself--I usually think of a great costume and get really creative with it but haven't really had the time to devote to it this year. :shrugs:

Our friend E is having a costume party tomorrow. It should be fun. Hopefully I can post pictures (still can't figure out how to do that!) this weekend...

gah! I just lost my post!

Grrr...I just lost a long post. I am so pissed.

If I ever have the energy to repost, I will.

Ugh.

Friday!

I'm so glad it's friday. Thankfully this week went by quickly! Tonight Steve and I are headed into the city to take his mom out to dinner in the Marina for her birthday. It should be fun. We have been neglecting his parents since being swamped with other social obligations, so tonight should be a good oppty to regroup with them.

We decided to stay in the city tonight because I have a meeting with my tax accountant first thing in the morning. My friend and I are partnering up and starting a jewelry biz so I wanted to get my accountant's advice. Should be interesting!

Tomorrow we'll probably grab breakfast after my meeting and head to Haight. I need some CDs and Amoeba is calling my name...

just an OK thursday...

The day started horribly for me. When I came into the office this morning I was greeted by a voice mail message from my VP, who happens to be traveling in Paris at the moment, saying he didn't receive some presentation materials I was supposed to send out last week.

huh?

I never received a request from him for this, which frustrates me to no end. Now I have to scramble around to get the info fed exed to him today. Soooo annoying.

My day got better, though. My friend Komal took me to a South Indian restaurant for lunch. Yummy. I enjoyed chana masala and some other dish I've never tried before (apparently South Indian food is totally different from the rest of India). Now I'm totally full, but not thankfully not comatose. :) I hate having food comas after lunch because I spend the rest of the work day wishing I could crawl under my desk for a nap.
